What will you do?

20 million questions across 2.5 million responses are answered daily on the SurveyMonkey platform. The Survey taking experience is the front door for this scale.  We are re-architecting this experience, the heart of our core business, to continue to scale our website and innovate on a new platform.

If you were to take on this role, you would be responsible for…

  • Architecting, building and maintaining the survey taking experience, built primarily in React, Node.js and Python
  • Top-to-bottom ownership of new features, including crafting technical specs, writing readable and extensible code, and keeping tabs on post-release metrics
  • Innovating on the respondent experience and growing it in new markets (international) and devices (mobile)
  • Investigating and addressing issues with performance, scalability, and maintainability
  • Building observable systems that track important metrics and automatically notifies when something is off
  • Mentoring and guiding engineers on best practices and performing code reviews

 

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum of 10+ years of industry experience
  • In-depth, hands-on knowledge of Python and/or JavaScript.
  • Experience with web frameworks and libraries in Python (Pyramid, Django) and JavaScript (React, GraphQL, and Node.js)
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize front-end UI functionality to ensure web applications are rendered consistently and efficiently in cross-browser, cross-device, international environments
  • Strong communication skills used to collaborate closely with peers, instill a culture of code reviews and promote writing of tech specs
  • Able to write efficient SQL queries and design schemas for relational databases
  • Extensive experience with Unix/Linux environment for troubleshooting, profiling and performance tuning
  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience

 

What technologies do we use?

  • Current state: Python with Pyramid as the web framework.
  • Future state: We’re moving towards a JavaScript stack with Node.js, Express, React, and GraphQL at its core.
